All Black Lives Matter

I couldn’t put out this blog without addressing the issues in my own community. People are becoming more aware and tuned into what happens to Black people every single day. In the middle of a global pandemic, while most of the world was in quarantine, the merciless murders of Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd were videotaped and released within weeks of one another, creating an uprising all around the world. Both Aumaud and George were murdered by white men abusing their power and taking lives because they thought that they could. This movement is very important for both the wellbeing and safety of Black people.

These problems are not new and they’re not problems that only happen in the United States. Racism continues to follow Black people anywhere they are. This world was designed to put Black people down and we’ve all seen that this design has worked perfectly for centuries. Personally, this is something that I am very passionate about. Being a Black woman, it is extremely difficult to know that this system wasn’t created for me. We’ve seen instances where Black women haven’t received the justice they deserve after being brutally murdered at the hands of the police. Breonna Taylor—whose name rings in my ears and whose face is embedded in my brain—deserved better. If you don’t know who she was, she was an emergency medical technician who was training to be a nurse. On March 13th, while Breonna was sleeping, she was shot eight times by police officers. The police officers involved have yet to be arrested. This is not an isolated situation. The murder of Black people by police officers has been a persistent struggle for Black people.

The fight is not over. It’s far from done. We need to continue to fight for police abolition and for the rights of Black people. If you disagree with the all Black lives matter movement, I encourage you to look at it from a different perspective.

Take a look at a different perspective, what does that mean?

It’s so easy for us to be close minded to the issues that happen everyday. We have influences all around us, from our family, friends, school, and work. It can sway our own opinions or cause us to only see one side of the story. I know that it can be difficult for me sometimes especially because I always think I’m right. It’s okay to listen to other people’s experiences and see the world through their eyes. It teaches us empathy and can strengthen relationships between people. Hear me out, that’s all I ask.

  1. Amazing I just read through this a second time .. I feel the literally 0.000001% of the population understands how much history has affected what our reality is today .. I feel the slave trade is not over. It has expanded, as it is MORE children that die STARVE to death each day today while we live in abundance in the first world, you could call this torture, especially because it could so easily be avoided .. a reproduction of history .. I wish more people were aware of this
